Was at a very tough birth last night and although, eventually we had a good outcome I was thinking of all the reasons we should homebirth.,
Just for fun, lets make a list.....

1) If you have a VE, you know the name of the person that performs it! Most likely, as well as that, you know how many kids they have, how many women they care for, what they ate for dinner and lots of other glorious bits of personal information. In a hospital, you know nothing about the person that invades your space, and often not their name or title...and sometimes you can actually lose count of how many people "go there". REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!

2. You can eat chocolate during your labour and noone looks at you wiered.

3. Noone's concerend about you eating, because they're not expecting you to have a caesarian

4.You can have a cast of thousands to support you, or just yourself - your choice

5. you can video your homebirth, without worrying about the obs being scared of litigation

6. You can wear your best bra and undies, and noone says "Just pop this gown on please"

7. You're generally treated like an intelligent individual. Your midwife expects you to be informed.

8. You don't feel judged by your choices, i.e. vaccination

9. Midwives aren't scalpel happy.

10. When two midwives are peering over your perineum stitching you up - you're included in the process, not just some number.

I could continue ;)

I am really laughing here Kiera!!
I kept mine to 1....
I love number 4, 7, 8 and 10.
When my georgeous mum last night was having her vagina stitched after a failed ventouse... her hands were NOT TO GO OVER THE GREEN COVER!!!!!! Obviously her own potentially lethal germs might kill her if they cross the already hugely clinical, clean, sterile, ungermintated environment of her vagina!

Haa haa at number 10 Kiera.... add student midwife into the mix and giggles as well

11. You can walk naked from room to room and not have to "worry" about other people

12. You can have other children in attendance without the "medical staff" being "disturbed"

13. You don't have to be subjected to that oh so uncomfortable car trip to hospital or wonder if you'll be on the headlines for delivering on the roadside

14. You aren't threatened with a catheter if you don't pee at appropriate intervals

The car trip alone in your case Raels, ought to rule a hospital birth out LOL.

15. You are ENCOURAGED to pee in the bath (so you can pee)

16. You can snuggle up in your own bed afterwards

17. Your baby is colonised with YOUR bacteria, not a hospital full of sick people's bacteria

18. Your baby doesn't smell like industrial strenght dettol for weeks after the birth - just that delicious newborn smell.

19. You can not only keep, but eat, paint, plant, or enshrine your placenta.

20. You aren't on the clock to birth the placenta, cut the cord, or any other process that might deprive your baby of oxygen, blood, and mummy time.

21. Because people are in YOUR house, they tend to treat YOUR labour as YOUR time and YOUR rules... not someone elses.

22. Noone disapproves of you having a doula there.

Oook where was I up to Flapper
23. You can birth your baby in their own time
24. You can listen to your household sounds, as they continue as normal.
25. Your hubby can wear his comfy tracky dacks, not a blue gown and cap
26. When you're done with the birthing thing, your midwives are equally as interested in your placenta as you are. Even suggesting to help you make prints!
28. You have SO much more room to move, dance, and make noise in

29. If you want to get outside for fresh air its easily done and noone will stop you
30. You get to see your birthing space every day and relive the experience

31. There is nothing like preparing your home birth nest... it is one of the most fun things I ever did.

33. Due to the unmedicated labour and birth, you and bubba have a massive rush of oxytocic hormones, that set you up on a post birth high which in my case lasted for weeks.

34. Bonding starts IMMEDIATELY

35. If you bought the pool (www.simplybirth.com.au for the amazingly comfy La Bassine Pools!!)you can use it as a playpen, trampoline, hiding place from the kids, the list goes on.

36. In the case you do have to transfer to hospital, your midwife comes with you, so you have someone you know there the whole time.

37. Being in labour at home is a great way to permanently scare away door to door sales people etc

41 - you don't have to tread in icky hospital showers, where loads of other people have trod, bled, pooped, you name it...

42 -You don't need to wear a hospital gown.
