Apologies if this is in the wrong place!

I have spoke to my midwife once before - a few months ago when we were preparing to do our Frozen Embie Transfer - which did not go ahead. That whole process threw me pretty hard, so after telling my midwife I would call her with a result, i couldn't deal with anything to do with it anymore.
SO, I didn't contact her again :( - Now I still want to meet up with her, and potentially use her as my midwife, when should I contact her?

How many midwifes should I meet up with?

YES!!! As soon as you can. Peace of mind knowing she is available and ready to take you on is worth SO MUCH! PLus, she will be able to do all your antenatal care, or most of it. As soon as you feel comfy, call her!

I would call her now...you never know if someone else would call and book her if you left it a few weeks. At least she would be able to book you in even if the antenatal care doesnt start for some weeks iykwim.

I booked into the midwifery program here in Perth, more or less as soon as the two lines appeared on my pregnancy test....

I'm with Lisa and Jami - call now, even if it's just for your peace of mind.

Begin that journey of support!

I would treat it the same as if you were going to go through the hospital system and needed to book in with an obstetrician - book early because they book out

Same as Kiera, I was pretty much just pregnant when I booked in for the program here... well, once I got past being in denial anyway

I agree with the others Renee. Good IMs are popular for a reason and book out quickly. I was super lucky to get my primary IM pencilled in around 14wks (confirmed by 18), but I didn't get my pick of secondary as I left it too late (I AM happy with who I have though).

Ring her now if you haven't already. I'm sure she'll understand why you didn't keep in touch after deciding not to go ahead with IVF again.

I actually didn't decide to talk to an IM until i was 26 weeks pregnant, i contacted 3 IMs and only one got back to me, luckily she has a space left and i had confirmed with her by 28 weeks. I think its a good idea to meet with as many MW as you can until you find one that you feel really comfortable with, my MW was great, but to be honest if i had have had more choice i dont think i would have gone with her. Just like with any care provider you are hiring them, you have the right to choose and be happy with your care.

Thanks for your replies..

Lisa - Her name is Tricia She has info here...

I am a bit worried, and Klay and I dont think we are going to be able to afford a HB :-(

We've had a few dramas with our house - and the bank, and money has become quiet tight - I think I will be looking over $5,000 for a HB, and with us now having to pay for fence, driveway..

I am upset, Klay really wants to find a way for us to have our HB, but right now we just don't know how we can afford it :-( I wish that QLD had the same program as WA :-(

So at this point in time, I am onto my last resort when it comes to being able to get a midwife and a homebirth, there is a lady who I have contacted, she is thinking about wether a 35-40 min drive is too far away from her. And asked how long my last labour was etc.

I cant express how disappointed I am :(
Klay suggested we just don't have anyone here, but I am not comfortable with that, have considered just having a doula, but I don't know, I just feel at ease having a midwife - If only I was a 3rd year and had some friends who were finished at uni hey ;)

The birth center here won't take me - as I am too far away - great. And I said to Klay it is a SIGN that I am suppose to stay home, I can't even get through to the antenatal clinic!

I fiddled the budget and even Klay said he will do our fence himself, knock $3000 off the price, but we still don't have the spare cash, anywhere :(

HI Renee,
I'm so sorry you have this angst.
There are a couple of things you can do, you can try to negotiate with the midwife, maybe if you have a few antenatal checks done via your GP, you could cut the cost down a little bit?
Some midwives are happy to discuss payment plans as well, so paying half up front and half after the birth may be possible. ( I do have a really lovely midwife friend that has not been paid after making this arrangement and it left her out of pocket and hurt) so some midwives many not be willing to be paid in that way.
Don't give up, if you want this baby at home enough, you will find a way.
You could always try to get on the programme in Perth and spend a couple of weeks here!! lol
Freebirthing is an option more and more women will turn to, not everyone is comfortable with it, but if you read up, explore you may feel it is not quite so daunting. There are some great freebirth sites about. You may find a doula or birthworker willing to attend you with a freebirth, but again, there are some doulas that are very happy to do this and others are not so keen.
First thing to do is discuss it with your midwife and see what options you have there, you may find the perfect resolution.
