Note: It's not pain relief!!
Rescue remedy is a combination of bach flower essences designed to calm, support, and relax you. It's a homeopathic preparation, and is safe to use in pregnancy and labour.
Quote:

What are flower essences?

Flower essences, are a homoepathic method of healing. Discovered by Dr Edmumd Bach, a British physician, who approached healing by seeing the disease as the “final symptom” or he manifestation of stress, anxiety and worry. Flower essences address individual symptoms, and alleviate them before the body translates them to physical disease.

Bach flower essences are made in the UK, from flowers steeped in spring water, using grape brandy as a preservative.

How can Flower Essences help me in labour?

The following are Bach Flower Essences, that may assist you in labour.

Rescue Rememedy - available in drops, and cream form. The cream can be applied to broken tissue. It’s also available in a non alcoholic solution, suitable for breastfeeding mothers

I've found Rescue Remedy to be really useful in a number a circumstances. Before I added it to my doula bag, I tried it out on myself a few times to see what it was like Laugh . It was great! When I was really anxious it seemed to calm me down quite quickly. Now I'm not sure if there was a bit of a placebo effect going on there, but none the less, I got the desired result. Some of my clients have also chosen to use it during labour (especially the dads!!LOL ) and they have all either been positive about it or indifferent.

You mentioned the lotion and the solution with eye dropper. It also comes in a spray, where you just spray 2 squirts under your tongue (this is the one I use), AND in a candy too! I haven't tried the candy drops because they don't seem as economical, but I wonder if they taste any good?

I keep seeing the drops around, and wonder how they get away with charging what they do for them. Truly they're not much more than large homeopathic pillules.

Nonetheless.

I have used the spray myself, and it's convenient to keep in your handbag. I found the drops most useful in labour, largely because my gorgeous doula kept my water "spiked" with rescue remedy.

Haha I'm sure at some point I heard mention of it being put in the birth pool, but i'm not sure what that would achieve, other than wasting rescue remedy.

LOL about the birth pool Kiera! LOL

I spray the rescue remedy right into a glass of water for clients too, I guess it's just like the eye dropper, but probably a bit more frothyLOL

Yeah, I'm not too convinced with the lolly things either :)

The pastels are yummy!! Not good value for money.
I have been using rescue remedy well, hmmmmmmmm ok, since I was attacked in a pub when i was 21..so nearly 20 years. I use it for everything. It also works on pets! Pressure points on tiny babies, exams, upset etc etc . I joke it should be the only intravenous drug used during labour (-: I like the pippet one becasue you can spike drinks with it (-:
